Getting started with Blist

What to do in your first minutes with the app, step by step, up to the first confirmed dose.

Create the account

Blist is a free download from the App Store, on iPhone, and from Google Play, on Android. When you open it, tap Create account: you can sign up with your email and, on iPhone, also with your Apple account. No card is needed.

If you will also use Blist on an Android phone, create the account with your email: an account created with Apple cannot be opened from Android yet.

The first time, a short tour shows where everything is. You can skip it and watch it again from Profile. On Home, a card gathers the first steps and ticks itself off as you go.

The iPhone app is in Spanish for now; the Android app is also available in English, French and Portuguese.

What Blist is and what it does

Make sure reminders arrive on time

For Blist to remind you when each dose is due, your phone has to let it show notifications. Right after you sign in, the app explains what it uses them for and asks for permission. If you left it for later, turn it on in Profile › Settings › Notifications.

That same section has a test notification and a test alarm. Try them on the first day, before you need them: reminders depend on the phone's permissions and on its silent and battery-saving modes.

Add the first medication

In the Treatment tab, tap Add treatment and fill in what the prescription or the package says:

  • Who it is for: you or the person you care for.
  • The name, as it appears on the box, and the form: tablet, capsule, drops, cream or inhaler, among others.
  • The amount for each dose, as prescribed.
  • How often and at what time: every day, some days of the week, every so many hours or days, or once a month.
  • When it starts and, if it has one, when it ends.
  • The stock, if you want Blist to work out how many days it will last. It can be filled in later.

Confirm a dose

When the time comes, the reminder lets you confirm the dose without opening the app, or snooze it for 10 or 30 minutes. You can also confirm it in the app and from the home-screen widget.

If you would rather it ring like an alarm clock until you respond, in Profile › Settings › Notifications you can choose the alarm instead of the notification. It needs an extra phone permission to work.

Blist organizes what you enter: it does not change doses or schedules. If you have a question about a treatment, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If you care for someone

To organize someone else's medication, on Home tap Add person and create their profile. You can enter their treatment even if that person does not use the app.

So that care does not rest on one person, share it from Profile, in the people section. You choose whether the person you invite can only view the treatment or also manage it, and you send the invitation as a QR code, as a link over WhatsApp or another app, or as a six-digit code that can be read out over the phone. The invitation lasts 24 hours.

Whoever receives it opens the link, scans the QR code or enters the code in Blist. Access can be changed or removed at any time.

What you can fill in later

  • The health profile (called Ficha médica in the app): blood type, allergies, coverage and an emergency contact. It is under Profile and can be shared as a PDF.
  • Appointments and vaccines, with a reminder an hour before.
  • Simple mode, with larger text and only today's doses, in Profile › Settings.
  • The lock that asks for the phone's unlock (face, fingerprint or passcode), in Profile › Settings.

What the Free plan includes

Blist can be used free within these limits. Blist+ removes them; each store shows its price and terms before purchase.

  • Your medication and that of 1 person close to you
  • Up to 5 medications per person
  • Up to 2 caregivers per person cared for
  • History for the last 15 days
  • Reminders, stock, SOS, and health profile
